Eczema Things

Because my fingers need something else to do, other than scratching that itch.

brandisbigbootybitches:

Been planning this post for a little while now, and I suggest all my friends/followers read it. It may help you.

Hi, as you may or may not know, my name is Brandi.

I have a little something called atopic dermatitis. If you’ve heard of eczema before, it’s in the same lineage. So you may be thinking, “Oh that’s just that thing my doctor said I had once!” Well, yes and no. Atopic dermatitis runs in families, never goes away and has no cure. If you’re unfamiliar with the term, I’ll give you a run-down.

According to Web MD:

Atopic dermatitis (AD; a type of eczema) is an inflammatory, chronically relapsing, non-contagious and pruritic skin disorder.

When I was a child, I was diagnosed with eczema very early. From before I was even a year old, I would scratch and scratch at areas until there was no skin left. The skin on my fingers would get so dry, that when I bent them, they would crack and bleed. For years every day to prevent this, my parents would bathe me in salt baths and rub me down with a clinical lotion that I remember smelled exactly like a telephone pole. Seems pretty brutal for a mere toddler to go through, right?

Okay, now imagine having that for the rest of your life.

When I got a little older, the attacks weren’t nearly as severe. Eventually, they all but seemed to go away! We were almost sure that I had grown out of it as years passed with nothing but a little dry skin here and there. However, there lies the trap in this type of eczema! It can disappear for years, only to come back again, full force.

So here I am, 18 years old, dealing with the same issues. The only new part is that I don’t usually get incredibly dry spots, I get welts and hives.

They look a little something like this:

Pretty attractive, huh?

Now, I still deal with the regular run-of-the-mill eczema stuff like this:

And to keep it from getting as bad as it once was, I have to rub on this special medicated lotion from my doctor!

Mmm clothes stickin’ to skin goodness.

I’m not reblogging this for the love your self message, though it was nice.

I’m reblogging because I am shocked that this exact same thing happens to other people too.  How its appearance changes.  How it disappears and it seems all is well and then BAM it’s back with a vengeance and you’re in hell. Again.

God, it makes me so sad.
